Bio
The Subtle Madness (also referred to as TSM) is an American Rock band from Dallas, TX, originally conceived by frontman Matt Butler (vocalist/songwriter/producer/multi-instrumentalist), TSM's Patient Zero, and rounded out in 2024 by the most talented lineup of musicians the band has had to date, including drummer Chris Negrete (Silhouette / From Over There), guitarist Dirk Ellerd (Innrcor / Awake in Theory / Silhouette), synth & keyboard guru and Austin songwriter Joseph Salazaar (Technicolor Hearts / Dream 2 Dream / Death is not a Joyride), & contributions from former NYC resident-bassist for Arista Records, Mike Paulhaumus, as well as the return of TSM’s original bassist, Chris Taylor.
The Subtle Madness recently released their new album, Zero-Sum, written and recorded over the span of five years, coinciding with a tumultuous time in the life of the band's founder.
Originally formed in Central Texas circa 2017, The Subtle Madness recorded a debut EP, Predisposed, intended to be released the following year, but it was ultimately shelved due to lineup changes & other setbacks halting the group's progress.
2024 has seen renewed momentum for The Subtle Madness, beginning with the release of the new album, confirmation of live dates TBA soon with an all-new lineup, and word that there will be a collective music & multi-media art project to be unveiled over the course of this year, expanding upon the concept of Zero-Sum and exploring it further.
